Abstract

This work is a prospective cross-sectional study aimed at evaluating depressive symptomatology in the postpartum period (Baby Blues) and the presence of biopsychosocial-environmental factors, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the ONU in the 2030 Diary.

The sample comprised thirty (30) postpartum women aged between 16 and 41 years, whose deliveries were attended at the HCANK during July and August 2023.

Two weeks after childbirth, the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was administered to evaluate the presence of depressive symptoms and a semi-structured interview was conducted to detect biopsychosocial-environmental factors.

Of the total sample, 36.67% (11 women) showed symptoms associated with Baby Blues, taking a cutoff score of 9 points on the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).

All the postpartum women who presented depressive symptoms according to the EPDS reported the presence of one or more socio-environmental factors and/or organic problems associated with pregnancy; 63.64% reported traumatic experiences in childhood, 54.55% had a history of mental health issues, and 63.64% stated that they had not received information about motherhood nor participated in Comprehensive Preparation for Motherhood (PIM).
